Beginning of Year Message from Dr. Garrett-Superintendent

Welcome to the Haywood County Schools. It is a pleasure to be the superintendent of your school system. Our schools are the home for premier pre-kindergarten through grade thirteen education.
Our district is recognized throughout our region and state for academic excellence and strong traditions. Our community believes in a strong commitment to education and dedication is very evident in the programs and opportunities available to all students. We have a high graduation rate and our dropout rate continues to decline. Our schools continue to receive positive recognition for student performance on the NC accountability model. Haywood County Schools rank in the top 10% of the schools in North Carolina.
It is our vision that every student will achieve success and graduate as a life-long learner, globally competitive, prepared for career, college and life. Each classroom setting will provide best practiced, research based instructional strategies and high expectations for all students. Haywood County Schools provide opportunities for students in and outside the classroom and recognize the importance of experiences and activities beyond the school day such as performing and visual arts, athletics and clubs.
I am very proud of the progress our school system is making and invite you to join us in realizing our vision and mission. Come visit our system and feel the friendly, inviting atmosphere in our schools. Talk with teachers and students and become part of a dynamic school system. I encourage the people of Haywood County to continue its history of support for the schools. The end product will be a stronger school system that will make us proud. It is imperative that we work together to build strong relationships and support systems in order for our children to achieve the highest levels possible. I am confident that working together, we can provide the best possible education for each child. I know that teaching everyone takes everyone!
